Who I am

Method & Measure is Marc Beaton, a sole trader in the UK. I’m responsible for the personal data described here. For anything about your data, email marc@methodandmeasure.co.uk.

What I collect and why

  • Enquiries. If you use the enquiry form or email me, I keep your name, email address, what you wrote, which link or website brought you here, how you found the site if you choose to say, and your IP address (to block spam and abuse). I use them to reply to you, including an automatic acknowledgement. This is in both our interests, or a step towards working together.
  • Clients. If we work together, I keep your contact details, our correspondence, and quotes, invoices and payment records, to deliver the work and because the law requires business records to be kept.
  • Files you share for a project, such as spreadsheets, are used only for that project and treated as confidential. Where I can, I work from anonymised copies. I only use AI tools on your material with your agreement, and only once names and personal details have been removed.
  • Payments are taken by Stripe. I never see or store your card details; I receive your name, email address and whether the payment went through.
  • Businesses I contact. If I’ve written to you about my services, I hold your name, business and business contact details, taken from public sources. Tell me you’re not interested and I’ll stop, keeping only a note so I don’t contact you again.

Cookies

This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising trackers. It stores one small setting in your browser for the current visit, so the opening animation doesn’t replay on every page; it’s cleared when you close the tab. The demo apps at app.methodandmeasure.co.uk and crew.methodandmeasure.co.uk each use a single cookie to keep you signed in while you browse; it’s needed for the app to work and isn’t used for anything else. The demos’ data is made up and reset every night.

Who else handles it

I use a small number of providers, each only for the job described:

  • Google Workspace: email.
  • IONOS: the domain, and hosting for this website and the demo app, on servers in Europe.
  • Stripe: card payments.

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, it’s covered by the safeguards UK law requires, such as adequacy regulations or approved contract terms. I don’t sell or share your data with anyone else.

How long I keep it

  • Enquiries that don’t lead to work: up to two years, then deleted.
  • Client records, invoices and payments: six years, as required for tax.
  • Project files containing personal details: deleted once the work is signed off. I may keep tools or code built for the project, which hold no personal details, so I can make future changes.
  • Details of businesses I’ve contacted: until you ask me to stop, and reviewed every year.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, or ask me to correct it, delete it, limit how it’s used, or stop using it. Email marc@methodandmeasure.co.uk and I’ll respond within a month. If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
